How To Make Money With Facebook Ads

Marketing is one of those big black clouds that hang over business owners' heads. There are so many elements to marketing that sometimes, it really is hard to know where to place your gambling chips. One of the questions that normally plays a part in this is, how can you actually make money running Facebook Ads? Some business owners throw Facebook Ads out of their strategies altogether and deny that Facebook Ads can even work for their business, mainly because they’ve been burnt by an advertising agency that hasn’t cared enough about their account in the past.

But for those business owners that are still considering Facebook Ads in their marketing strategy, with the right tools or agency, Facebook Ads could be the marketing gold mine that you’ve been searching for. It’s all about creating a strategic testing strategy and being quick enough reacting to the data that you’re analysing in your account. Without these two essential things, no wonder other accounts have failed time and time again. So, let’s make sure your Facebook Ad account is set up for success.

Setting up a strategic testing strategy can sound a little daunting, especially if you’re new to the world of Facebook Advertising. So, instead of overcomplicating it, let’s break this into two simple steps…

Step 1: Your Facebook Ads Campaign Structure

Now, I’m sure you’ve seen many different strategies when searching the web for answers, and I’m not going to sit here and tell you they’re wrong because, without seeing the data from those strategies, who am I to judge them?! However, I will tell you that setting up your campaigns so that you are able to test multiple different elements within each campaign is extremely important.

I, for one, always set up my campaigns so that I can test a large variation of different audiences. There are some Facebook Ads experts out there that swear by using only broad audiences and do not set up audience testing in their ad accounts. However, I believe that audience testing is still a very big factor in Facebook Ads success, especially if you’re running ads on smaller budgets. I have found that broad audience targeting can actually cost my clients more money than interest and lookalike-based audiences. Though this is something I always test.

Step 2: Your Facebook Ad Creatives

Your creatives are without a doubt the make or break of your Facebook Ad campaigns. If your creatives aren’t designed to engage users and entice them into buying your products, then there really isn’t much point in even running your campaigns. Your creatives need to be clear about what your product is, why it would benefit the user, and why they should pick your product over your competitors.

With this in mind, your campaigns need to have a clear testing strategy for your creatives too. This means testing your creatives using multiple different angles, as well as testing new creative variations of the creatives that have started to work well in the account.

So, you might be thinking, “Claire, that sounds like a lot of testing and a lot of work,” and I’m going to be honest with you, it is. There’s a reason that my clients outsource their advertising to me. The thing is, without regular and ongoing testing in your Facebook Ads account, your cost per purchase isn’t going to decrease… and after all, isn’t paying less for a conversion the aim of the game?

Facebook Ads need a lot of attention and a lot of data analysis. If you’re not quick enough making decisions in your account, your cost per result will get out of control and cost you a lot more money than you’d like it to.

If you need a hand with your Facebook Ads account, or are worried your current agency isn’t spending enough time testing on your account, then please get in touch. I would be happy to give you a free Facebook Ad account audit and let you know how we could work together to improve your account’s performance.
